Each year Second Chances raises funds from individuals, our community, and corporate donations so that we can provide free clothing to people who are pursuing positive new beginnings. You'll see our year end appeal letter in the mail or by email in December. I hope you'll consider giving someone in our community their own second chance by donating online or by check on Giving Tuesday or any time. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

Giving Tuesday 2016
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. It's celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the United States) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many people focus on their holiday and year-end giving. We'll be sharing a variety of ways you can give back locally from now through Tuesday, November 29, 2016.

http://www.secondchances.org/donatefunds.html One small, easy way to give while you shop is to support Second Chances when you shop on Amazon.com. Every time you shop through our page link, designating Second Chances as your Smile beneficiary, we get .5% of your purchase - and it doesn't cost you anything! Details »

In the news

And our community partners at Somerville Homeless Coalition featured our collaboration to provide free clothing to their homeless and very low-income clients in their Fall 2016 newsletter! Read more on page 2 »

We're grateful for our nonprofit partnerships which help provide free, esteem-building clothing to hundreds of homeless and low-income people in our community each year.

Happy Earth Day! New website and more.
2ndchancesinc
Dear friends of Second Chances -

Earth Day is tomorrow, Friday, April 22, 2016. Any big plans?

As for Second Chances, I am pleased to announce the launch of Second Chances' new website at www.secondchances.org.

Our old website was designed in 2007 and won a national award for innovation in 2008. It served us very well, and we're thrilled to have had the opportunity to overhaul our website in celebration of a decade of providing free clothing to homeless and low-income people in our community!

We'll be using LiveJournal a bit less going forward, and the News and Events pages on our new website - in conjunction with our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn pages and our e-newsletter - will become our primary channels for events, clothing drive results, announcements, photos, and more. I hope you'll join us there!

Let me know what you think of the new website. I'm eager to hear and incorporate your feedback!

THANK YOU for being part of our community! With your help, we have been able to provide free clothing, shoes, accessories, gift cards, and more to more than 2,700 neighbors in need and recycle and reuse more than 885,000 pounds of clothing.

Sincerely,

Andrea Shapiro

Support our colleague, friend, and Somerville community leader
2ndchancesinc
Our friend and colleague Warren Goldstein-Gelb, Executive Director of The Welcome Project in Somerville, suffered a stroke.

He's now in rehab and working hard to get back home - but he and his family have many difficult challenges ahead. Warren will need some physical accommodations at his house to allow him to return there and his medical expenses for the time he's spent at rehab facilities and the hospital will exceed what is covered by his insurance.

Join us on Wednesday, February 3rd at Aeronaut Brewery for a fun celebration and fundraiser to support Warren! Details: https://www.facebook.com/events/1517622951864907/

And/or donate online to support Warren: http://www.plumfund.com/medical-fund/warren-aid

Or, if you'd like to send a check, send it to Warren Goldstein-Gelb Medical Benefit Account, Rockland Trust, 399 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA 02144. 011304478 (routing number); 1416006086 (bank account number). And you can go into any Rockland Trust with the account information.

Thank you for helping a generous, kind, wonderful member of our Somerville community.
