We've just finished the busiest quarter in Second Chances' history, with 30,000 pounds of clothing collected, 12 clothing drives and public events, and 356 pieces of clothing donated to more than 150 clients of local homeless shelters and anti-poverty programs -- with all volunteer labor! It's been a productive and exciting quarter.
We are still facing a difficult year with a very small budget and limited capacity during a time when people need our services more than ever. If you can help Second Chances with a financial contribution this year, please do. You can donate online through our website or print out a donation and sponsorship form and send your check in the mail. We are so grateful for your support.
Please keep checking in here and at www.secondchances.org for all the latest news and events.
Have a great summer! -- Andrea

Second Chances' clothing donation bin in Assembly Square has been one of our most active and successful donation bins. Recently, some regular donors let me know that two other bins (not ours) appeared in the parking lot of Christmas Tree Shops and Staples in addition to Second Chances' bin.
When you donate clothing to Second Chances, the clothing you donate is used, reused and recycled to support homeless and low income people in our own communities. We hope that you will continue to donate clothing to Second Chances at our bins at Assembly Square (Somerville), Cambridge Recycling Center (Cambridge), Delaney Linen Service (Watertown) and our public and other clothing drives.
The photo below shows one of Second Chances' clothing donations bins, which were painted with colorful urban murals by Artists For Humanity, a local program for young artists.

When you donate clothing at Assembly Square, we hope that you will continue to use Second Chances' colorful clothing donation bin. We, and the people we help, are so grateful for your support.

May was our busiest and biggest month ever! We are so grateful to all of you who decided to hold clothing drives for us and to those who cleaned their closets and drawers and dropped off at our donation bins. In May we collected more than 12,000 pounds of clothing - more than we collected in our first two years combined. Once it's all sorted and stored, this clothing will be a huge help to the people we serve. Thank you!
In June we have two big clothing drives: one in Waltham (June 20-27) and one in Somerville (June 24). Please visit our website: www.secondchances.org for all the details.
Want to help us? Our biggest need right now is financial support. We depend on corporate and individual donations to fund the costs of running this program. This year has been especially difficult - the need for our services has increased, and financial donations have dropped dramatically. So, if you are able to give, any amount, please consider a donation to Second Chances at www.secondchances.org.
Thanks again, Andrea

UPDATE (March 13, 2009): Our Assembly Square clothing donation bin is back. It looks a little ragged, but we'll fix it up in the spring. Thanks to everyone who helped get it back! UPDATE (March 12, 2009): Our Assembly Square clothing donation bin was inadvertently relocated and will be back in place very soon. We'll keep you posted when it's available again. Thanks for your support and patience!
Sometime between February 24 and March 10, 2009, our clothing donation bin at Assembly Square, Somerville disappeared.
It is 6' x 6' x 6', made of very heavy metal, colorfully painted with an urban mural and our logo and website (like the one below), and was in the parking lot near Staples and Christmas Tree Shops. These bins are impossible to replace and our services are needed more than ever right now.
We, and the people who depend on us, would be grateful for any information about its disappearance.
Contact us: www.secondchances.org/contactForm.htm Website: www.secondchances.org
I'll keep you posted.
Thanks, Andrea

Happy new year, friends of Second Chances.
What better way to begin 2009 than with a thorough closet cleaning? Out with the old and make room for the new. We now have donation boxes in Somerville, Cambridge and Watertown.
The clothing, shoes and accessories you no longer need will help people in our community as they move toward a better future. Second Chances provides free clothing to those in need through a network of local service providers. Last year Second Chances donated about 1,200 items to 350 people in local shelters and anti-poverty programs.
We are grateful for anything you can do to help our work. Details at www.secondchances.org.
Thanks, and may your year be filled with happiness and good health.
